The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a parallel two seats, twin-engine, all weather, long-range supersonic interceptor / fighter-bomber originally developed for the U. S. Navy by McDonnell Aircraft. It proves highly adaptable, it became a large part of the air wing of the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force. It was used extensively by all three of these services during the war in Vietnam, the primary air superiority fighter for both the navy and air force, and the importance of the ground attack roles and recognition of the close U.S. involvement in war.
